If you’re looking for a crossbow but on a tight budget, I’m going to try and help you out. This is a list of crossbows for under $150. I am in no way affiliated with any crossbow manufactures. The following is my opinion, based on personal experience alone.
You are probably aware of the many top brand name archery manufactures. When it comes to crossbow hunting you’ve likely heard of TenPoint, Excalibur, Parker, Wicked Ridge, Barnett, etc… While they all make good crossbows, many of their prices are out of reach for those on a tight budget.
Crossbows for under $150
Jaguar 175lb 245fps Recurve Crossbow with red dot scope.
If you need to stay under $150, the jaguar is the best new crossbow for the money.
The Jaguar 175lb 240fps Recurve Crossbow can be bought regularly for around $150 and on sale for under $100. I purchased mine brand new from a local Rural King store. It was on sale after the hunting season for $79.99. You can also check walmart, amazon, and of course always check craigslist for a good deal on a used one.
This crossbow is manufactured by PoeLang in Taiwan. Model Number CR-013G1A. It is sold in the US at Rural King under the name “MTech Jaguar 175 lb Recurve Camo Crossbow CR-013A2″. SA Sports sells it under the name “SA Sports Fever”. The SA Sports fever comes with a 4×32 Scope instead of a Red Dot scope. I personally like the Red Dot scope better for this crossbow, because it is primarily a short range crossbow. Many of the SA Sports Crossbow is a re-branded PoeLang models. The Ambush, Crusader, Fever, Vendetta, and Ripper are all PoeLang. The new Empire series does not look like anything on the Old PoeLang Site, and at the time of writing the New Poe Lang Site is not fully functional, so I’m not sure about those yet. I’m guessing they are made by Poe Lang. I’ll update this if I figure it out. If you know, then leave a comment.

Inferno Fury 175 lbs 235 FPS Recurve Crossbow
The regular price of this crossbow is usually less than the Jaguar, but I recommend the Jaguar over the Fury.
The Arrow Precision Inferno Fury crossbow appears to be a re-branded Man Kung MK-175AC. Man Kung is another popular Taiwan based crossbow manufacturer. Some off the Arrow Precision crossbows are exact matches to the Man Kung website with a few added accessories and such. I feel like Man Kung are basically knock-offs of PoeLang crossbows. They are almost, but not quit the same. PoeLang crossbows are just a little better. I have not owned the MK-175 or the Arrow Precision Inferno Fury version. I owned an MK-150 at one time. Based on my experience with the MK-150, I would defiantly go with the PoeLang crossbow over this one. The MK-175 is slower, and heavier than the CR-013G1A, and they are usually about the same price. Not all Arrow Precision crossbows are Man Kung. The Blaze, Fury, Blitz, and Hellfire are all Man Kung for sure. I’m pretty sure the Firestorm and Wildfire are from a China manufacturer called Jandao China.

Man Kung MK-150A1PB 150 LB 210 FPS Recurve Crossbow
Fun little crossbow. Can be used for hunting, but I would use more for target practice.
The Man Kung MK-150A1PB is the little brother to the MK-175. Although a well placed shot will defiantly kill a white-tail deer at 20 – 30 yards, it’s really more of what I would consider a target crossbow. I listed it here because you can buy this little crossbow from The Crossbow Store for $74.99 at regular price. If you want a wood stock you can spend $79.99, but the plastic one is pretty strong and light weight. It’s the lowest price crossbow that I would actually hunt with. If possible, I would recommend getting the Jaguar crossbow, instead of buying this one because I got mine for nearly the same price on sale. That being said, for a $75 crossbow, it’s not a bad crossbow to have around for pest control, or target practice. I did own one of these and I tested it. It will penetrate a 1/2″ plywood board at 20 – 30 yards.

If I missed a sub $150 crossbow, let me know.
These are the only three hunting worthy crossbows that I know of under $150 that are capable of taking down a white-tail deer at a good distance. Starting in 2012, Indiana approved the use of crossbows to hunt deer. In Indiana a crossbow is defined as a device for propelling an arrow by means of traverse limbs mounted on a stock and a string and having a working safety that may be drawn, held, and released by a mechanical device. It has to have a mechanical safety and a pull of at least 125 pounds. I believe a broad head is also required. You can buy a 130 pound 190 FPS crossbow from the crossbow store for around under $70. In Indiana it is totally legal and possible to take down a deer with one of these, but I really wouldn’t recommend hunting with one. Check your state and local laws before you buy!
